ABOUT THE ORG

Founded in 1994, Deepshikha Samiti started as part of a collective of community-based organisations and later became an independent organisation with the aim of improving the socioeconomic status of women and individuals from the transgender community.

They achieve this through policy advocacy, skill development, awareness, and community mobilisation. The organisation is led by community leaders from the transgender community, who drive the design and delivery of programmatic interventions.

TESTIMONIAL

“Aman (Shivam) comes from a queer community living in Sultanpuri, Northwest Delhi. Life wasn't easy for him. Wherever he went to work, people harassed him about his gender identity, forcing him to leave several jobs over time. To meet his daily needs, Aman had to start working as an online sex worker. One day, Aman (Shivam) met an outreach worker from Deepshikha Samiti on an online dating app. During the conversation, Aman shared his entire story and

problems with our field worker. Our team introduced Aman to the Pride Skill Creation Centre, which offers various vocational training courses.

Aman (Shivam) had always been passionate about working in the makeup and beauty field, but due to family and societal pressure, he was discouraged by the notion that "this work is

only for girls." Nevertheless, mustering courage, Aman (Shivam) enrolled in the Deepshikha Samiti's beautician course. He diligently completed the three-month course.

After completing the course, the organisation helped him secure a placement at Lalit Beauty Parlour. Today, Aman (Shivam) has been working there for two months. He is now earning a good income through his skills and hard work. Most importantly, he is now gaining both respect and recognition in society, and he is very happy. Aman (Shivam)'s story is an example that with the right guidance and opportunities, anyone can change the course of their life.”

Aman (Shivam) is now gaining both respect and recognition in society, and he is very happy.

FAQs

If you still don’t find what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out to us.

How can I donate to Pride Fund India?

We are inviting funders - philanthropists, family foundations, CSR, domestic and international foundations to commit and build an inclusive future for India’s queer community. We encourage funders to support our NGO partners located across India for their program and their administrative expenses via programmatic and unrestricted funds. We encourage our funders to support multiyear funding to deepen impact on the ground. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funders can collaborate with The Pride Fund to: - Access a curated, vetted portfolio of NGOs working on queer inclusion. - Simplify due diligence and reduce compliance and reputational risks through pooled funding. - Showcase impact on national and international platforms through Pride Fund’s partner networks. - Participate in cross-learning and co-funding opportunities with other inclusive corporates.

Are there ways to support Pride Fund India beyond financial contributions?

Yes, we are always on the lookout for volunteers from design, social media, and fundraising for our NGO partners.

What is the grant cycle and selection process?

In the launch year of 2025, we followed a participatory grant-making approach via a jury of founding patrons, anchor partners, and LGBTQIA+ practitioners. They reviewed the proposals collected through RFPs and selected grantees for post-deliberation. We will continue to take advice from this panel as we empanel more organisations. If you want to introduce your organisation to the Pride Fund India, please write to info@pridefundindia.org

Do you support early-stage organisations or only established ones?

We support organisations that are LGBTQIA+ focused, underfunded (small/grassroot/ mid-sized NGOs), and have been operational for at least three years.
